Installation Questions:

Do I need to remove the stickers from the product before installing?
Yes. Remove the stickers that are placed on each side and on the front and back of the product.

Sticker

Do I need to remove any glue left behind when the labels are removed?
No. While residual glue left behind when the label is removed may feel tacky to your hand, our testing has shown that the product performance will not be impacted. If your preference is to remove any residual glue, mineral spirits or paint thinner have been shown to work best.

Does the rubber gasket on the back of the product go under the drip edge?
No. The plastic flap is designed to sit against the drip edge or directly against the fascia board if no drip edge is present. It is not recommended or required to slide the plastic flap underneath the drip edge.

How do I overlap sections of Durabuilt Gutter Protection?
Both ends of the Durabuilt Gutter Protection piece have a ½" notched end. In other words, the back edges are cut back ½". When installing two pieces, make sure the back edge abuts. This will ensure that you have a proper overlap.

Installing at Corners, Valleys & Endcaps

Do I need to do anything special at valley locations?
Water diverters must be installed at all valley locations. One Diverter is included in every corner kit.

Roof Effects:

If I have a multiple level roof or a valley that dumps extra water onto the lowest level roof, will Durabuilt Gutter Protection overflow from the extra water flow?
Durabuilt Gutter Protection is designed for receiving water from a single level so for multiple level roofs, you must do one of the following:

1. Extend downspouts from upper roof levels down the lower roof then cut a hole in the Durabuilt Gutter Protection and use an elbow to drain the water directly into the lower level gutter.

Roof Effects

2. Use a B-style Elbow connected to an A elbow at the bottom of the upper level downspout to spread the upper level water flow over the lower roof.

Elbow Connect

3. If there is no gutter with downspout at the valley or upper level roof, purchase a drip edge and install under the shingles as a slanted water diverter (tar the nails to avoid leaks).

Troubleshooting Questions:

Will I ever need to remove debris from atop Durabuilt Gutter Protection?
It is important that debris is not allowed to lie atop Durabuilt Gutter Protection for long periods of time, so you may need to remove debris from atop Durabuilt Gutter Protection if in your location:

  • normal wind conditions do not reach 25 mph
  • snow has compacted debris
  • the debris is coated with sap or other sticky substances
  • the roofing/shingles overlap the Durabuilt Gutter Protection in a way that holds the debris in-place.

What is the best way to remove debris that the wind has not swept away?
We have found the simplest way to remove unwanted debris is use of a leaf blower or from the ground using a shop-broom with inverted handle.

Sweep

Will Durabuilt Gutter Protection work with pine needles?
While a few pine needles can eventually enter Durabuilt Gutter Protection, with all other debris being blocked, those few pine needles usually present no problem.

If you live in an area with an extraordinary amount of pine needles falling atop the Durabuilt Gutter Protection, installing a shorter piece of Durabuilt Gutter Protection near the downspout outlet can serve as an easy to remove checking point.

Will there be a build-up of snow/ice when I have Durabuilt Gutter Protection installed? Will the product prevent ice cycles from forming on my gutter?
Durabuilt Gutter Protection will not cause or prevent icicles from forming on top of the gutter. Ice or snow will build up on any gutter system. If the attic space is not properly insulated ice cycles may form. In fact, Durabuilt Gutter Protection prevents the ice from forming inside the gutter.

Is there any slope that the Durabuilt Gutter Protection will not work (too steep or too low)? At any slope will water shoot over the Durabuilt Gutter Protection?
Durabuilt Gutter Protection will work with any slope. However, the amount of roofing that overhangs the gutter is critical. To ensure that the water will run into your gutters, you must have at least 2.5" of exposed Durabuilt Gutter Protection surface area visible.

How large are the holes?
7/32" diameter

On what types of roofs will Durabuilt Gutter Protection work?
Durabuilt Gutter Protection will work on any roof system as long as the gutter is a conventional 5" gutter.

How does Durabuilt Gutter Protection work?
Water will enter the holes in the Durabuilt Gutter Protection. Virtually all debris remains on top of the Durabuilt Gutter Protection, and blows off with a normal wind.

How does Durabuilt Gutter Protection compare to screens and other products on the market?
Screens and other gutter covers have larger openings that may allow for a significant amount of debris to enter the gutter. The debris can also become trapped and this trapped debris cultivate seedlings to be seen protruding through the screens.

Front slotted covers (aluminum and plastic) are known to allow a certain amount of debris into the gutter, and some only catch a small percentage of the water.

Is there any slope that the Durabuilt Gutter Protection will not work (too steep or to low). At any slope will water shoot over the Durabuilt Gutter Protection?
Durabuilt Gutter Protection will work with any slope. However, the amount of roofing that overhangs the gutter is critical. To ensure that the water will run into your gutters, you must have at least 2.5” of exposed Durabuilt Gutter Protection surface area visible.

Why do I need Durabuilt Gutter Protection?
Durabuilt Gutter Protection is the only gutter protection product that is warranted to prevent overflow and clogging, made of the same material as your gutter (aluminum), that does not require disturbing your roof or lifting shingles, is easy to install and requires no fasteners.

How does Durabuilt Gutter Protection prevent leaves and other debris from entering the gutter?
Durabuilt Gutter Protection has been engineered with holes that are large enough to allow significant levels of rainfall to enter your gutter, but small enough to restrict debris from entering the gutter. Virtually all debris remains on top of the Durabuilt Gutter Protection, and blows off with normal wind.

Will a heavy rain overflow Durabuilt Gutter Protection?
Durabuilt Gutter Protection has been tested to handle up to 29.7 inches of rain/hour. The only requirements for this performance are that:

  • the minimum exposed area of the Durabuilt Gutter Protection top surface be 2.5"
  • the product must be flat or sloped towards the back of your gutter
  • Valleys, corners, endcaps and upper level water sources are handled as we have described

Will Durabuilt Gutter Protection work with Half-Round or other Specialty gutters?
No. Durabuilt Gutter Protection works only on conventional 5" gutter systems.

Does Durabuilt Gutter Protection come in any other material besides aluminum?
No. Durabuilt Gutter Protection comes in painted aluminum only.

Can Durabuilt Gutter Protection be installed on steel or copper gutters?
No.

How much wind is required to remove the debris from Durabuilt Gutter Protection?
Testing has shown that a six mph breeze will remove dry debris from Durabuilt Gutter Protection and that wet debris is typically removed once winds reach 25 mph.
